A traditional hanging lantern with a bell jar glass shade, the Dunhill adds a characterful touch to any home. Inspired by Georgian lighting schemes where lanterns were widely used to welcome visitors over the threshold, the Dunhill features a handblown clear glass shade held by a metal cage with a decorative glass disc suspended above it that originally, would have protected the candle from draughts.
Bell jar lanterns were hung in vestibules and entrance halls of Georgian homes where the high sided glass stopped candles being blown out when the door opened. One of our most popular pendants, the Dunhill is one of our smaller designs and looks wonderful suspended in a hallway, stairwell, landing or above a dining room table. In its manufacturing, we felt that our beeswax finish, which has been used to darken metal since Tudor times, was the perfect finish to bring out the gentle rusticity of the design.
The Dunhill Lantern is supplied with:
- 1 x ivory candle tubes.
- Fordham ceiling rose in beeswax
- 1m of cable and chain in the same finish
- beeswax fixing screws.
- Bulb purchased separately.

Finish: Beeswax - a traditional metalworking technique used since Tudor times to give a rustic, soft black finish. The metal is heated until it darkens and then dipped in natural beeswax which gives it a lovely soft black wrought iron effect that looks fabulous in any traditional or contemporary interior. As beeswax is a natural finish that reacts with the underlying metal during the forging process, it often has a subtle, slightly mottled patina with undertones of deep grey or ochre.
