ABOUT OUR BAY POLES

SIZE

We offer our bay window poles in two diameters, 20mm and a more substantial 25mm option.

FINISH

Our bay poles are made from high quality forged iron in a choice of finishes – Beeswax, Matt Black, Polished Lacquer, Clay, Old Ivory and Mercury. More information about these finishes can be found on our Product Finish pages.

BRASS - KIndly note we do not make bay poles in brass because it is not suitable. Solid, natural brass of the type we  use to make our brass products is too  heavy and soft to be bent adequately for a bay.

FINIALS

We offer a wide range of finials that perfectly complement your forged iron pole. From traditional to modern designs, all our finials are beautifully handmade and available to see here >

BRACKETS

Choose from three bracket styles for ends of your bay pole - the classic Chapel, more formal Brett and versatile  Sleeve that can be  used for a ceiling fitting. These can be extended to meet your requirements and work alongside our bay pole passing system that allows rings to pass over any central brackets.

CLEVER PASSING SYSTEM

The passing system enables curtains to be drawn around the curve of your bay window. The adjustable passing brackets will be used along side your choice of Chapel, Brett or Sleeve brackets and work with our innovate passing rings so that your curtains will pass over the entire length of your  pole or to wherever you would like them to meet in the middle.

HOW TO ORDER A BAY POLE

1. PHOTOGRAPH

Please provide a photograph of the bay window that requires the pole, ensuring it is not obscured by furniture. This helps us gain a good visual idea of you bay's requirements.

2. TEMPLATE

Create a paper template using our step by step guide below. Please keep in mind a paper template will need to follow the wall line and state if it has been made against the wall or skirting board. If made against the skirting board, we need to know the depth of the board from the wall.

3. COMPLETE THE FORMS

Click on your bay pole style from the four options at the bottom of the page and complete the 2 forms that are attached. Please return them along with your photograph and paper template to us so we can create a quote for you. If your bay is an unusual design please call us on 01473 826685 to discuss your requirements. A NOTE ABOUT BRACKETS

Window Profile with protruding features
We need to know if the brackets are going to be a standard projection or extended to take into account any features that project from your bay window area such as the window sill, skirting board and radiators. Ideally, your curtains will hang in front of these to hide them and prevent draughts.
  • All bay window poles require 3 brackets as a minimum - 1 centre and 2 end brackets. Then they normally go up in pairs.
  • Bay window brackets are generally required every 150cm unless you specifically request otherwise. Example: a reasonable size 4 bend bay would have 5 brackets 1 centre, 2 end and 2 passing.
  • If your brackets are fitting on the window frame but then drop back to the wall at the sides, we need to know the depth of the frame.
  • If the pole is to be ceiling mounted, we still need to know the projection from the wall to the back of pole, as well of the projection from the ceiling to the top of the pole.

STEP 1.  HOW TO MAKE A PAPER TEMPLATE

For instructions on how to make a paper template for your bay window, please read our guide

Use something robust like brown paper or wallpaper to make your template. Baking parchment or newspaper is too flimsy and is likely to tear.

FAQS

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

When our team have all the information they need, they will work out the cost of making your pole and raise a quote, including the number of brackets required and your chosen finials and accessories.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

As a bespoke product, you need to allow for the bay pole to take a maximum of 8 weeks to make, from the date your order is placed.

DO YOU MAKE BAY POLES IN BRASS?

We do not make bay poles in brass because as a natural metal, it is too soft and heavy to be suitable for making bends.

HOW WILL MY POLE BE SUPPLIED?

Your bay pole will be supplied in 2 equal parts with joiner rods that are secured in place by grub screws. If particularly large, it may be in 3 parts. The brackets will hide the joins. The poles are wrapped and packed into sleeves with the brackets, rings and accessories boxed separately for ease of delivery.

CAN YOU MAKE CEILING FITTED POLES?

We can adapt our Adjustable Passing Brackets for use on a ceiling. These can be used alone, or combined with our Sleeve Brackets to hold your at the ends and centre.

CAN YOU EXTEND BRACKETS?

We can extend brackets to your specifications. All bracket measurements need to be from the wall to the back of the pole. Our standard bracket projections are:
  • 20mm pole – 40mm from wall to back of pole.
  • 25mm pole – 47mm from wall to back of pole.

HOW MANY BRACKETS DO I NEED?

All bay window poles require 3 brackets minimum. They normally go up in pairs. Bay window brackets are generally required every 150cm unless you specifically request otherwise. Example: a reasonable size 4 bend bay would have 5 brackets 1 centre, 2 end and 2 passing.

WHAT IS YOUR PASSING SYSTEM?

Our Adjustable Passing Brackets are designed to clasp your pole and allow our 'C' shaped Stoke Passing Rings to pass over the bends so that you can fully draw your curtains.  Our standard Stoke Rings are used between the end bracket and finial to anchor your curtains in place.
