At its heart, the Chichester is a traditional bell jar lantern that became popular during Georgian times when glass was first used to surround a candle to protect it from draughts. The hand blown glass shade allows the warm glow of the bulb to shine through, while the brass disc detail that sits above the shade (that originally would have prevented candle soot from reaching the ceiling), brass frame and traditional chain suspension completes its classic appeal, giveng it an authenticity and character that will only become more beautiful with age.
The Chichester is ideal as a hallway pendant light, making a welcoming first impression when hung in an entrance or stairwell. Its timeless design also works beautifully as a kitchen pendant light, dining room light or bedroom pendant, while its generous glass shade allows it to sit comfortably within both traditional and modern schemes. Finish: Antiqued Brass - a beautiful, natural finish produced by distressing the brass to create a soft patina that is then treated with antiquing solution to speed up the natural tarnishing process and create a lovely aged look that will darken naturally over time. Antiqued Brass is an incredibly versatile finish that works well with any colourway and natural building materials such as brick, stone, plaster or woodwork and looks equally at home in a modern property as it does a period one.
Please note: this glass is a natural resource and as each piece is individually handmade slight imperfections may occasionally occur such as ripples and small bubbles.
