DESCRIPTION
Our fabulous brass curtain poles are the perfect companion for your curtains, ensuring they will continue to look good for years, in whichever room you hang them. Handmade at Jim Lawrence from natural, unlacquered brass that is finished in our signature antiqued brass, and with a selection of elegant bracket designs and finial styles to choose from, they have a classic, weighty quality that will give you endless pleasure looking at them.
  • Our brass curtain rods are available in two styles, smooth and reeded, and in two diameters, 19 and 25mm.
  • The natural brass we use is not suitable for use as bay poles because it is both too heavy and soft to be bent adequately for a bay.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Pole Length
  • Any length of pole can be ordered, but if over 180cm long we would recommend using a central support bracket
  • If over 210cm long the pole will be supplied in two (or more) equal parts with a joiner rod. The join will be covered by your central bracket.
  • Due to the weight of brass, we recommend a maximum pole length of 360cm.
  • For longer lengths please see our range of forged iron poles.
Finish: Antiqued Brass - a lovely, natural finish created by treating solid brass with antiquing solution to speed up the natural tarnishing process to create a lovely aged look that will darken naturally over time. We recommend that you regularly buff your curtain pole with a soft cloth to remove any dust that may gather on the top and prevent it from settling on the curtains.  Rubbing a candle along the top of the curtain pole will aid the smooth movement of the rings along the pole and also help prevent a build up of dust.

Curtain Pole Guide

Which Pole Should I Choose?

Estimate whether your curtains are lightweight (unlined voile, linen or cotton), medium weight (lined cotton, velvet, composite fabrics), or heavyweight (interlined and full length, heavy velvet). This will help you determine the best pole diameter for your needs.

Create Your Own Made-to-Measure Pole

  1. Use our guide for tips on How to measure for a curtain pole.
  2. Choose supporting brackets from our 19mm brass brackets range (Chapel, Brett, Sleeve, etc).
  3. Select finials from our 19mm brass finials range.
  4. Calculate rings: We recommend 1 ring per 7cm of pole.

Pole Size & Weight Recommendations

12mm Pole
12mm - 20mm
Light Weight

Best for small windows. Unlined voile, linen or cotton.

20mm Pole
19mm / 20mm
Medium Weight

Lined cotton, velvet, and composite fabrics.

25mm Pole
25mm & above
Heavy Weight

Interlined and full-length curtains, heavy velvet.

38mm Pole
38mm
Extra Heavy

Large windows, long spans, very heavy curtains.

💡
Rule of Thumb If curtains are interlined and window span is over 2m, use at least a 25mm pole. If in doubt, size up!

FAQS

DO I NEED A CENTRE BRACKET?

12mm Poles
 - the maximum length we would recommend without using a central bracket is 150cm

19/20/25/38mm Poles - the maximum length we would recommend without using a central bracket is 180cm.

DO I NEED AN EXTENDED BRACKET?

If you have an architrave, window frame or radiator that sits particularly proud of your walls, you may need an extended bracket to ensure your curtains hang in front of them. They are double the depth of our normal brackets. Due to the weight of brass, we do not make extended brackets for brass poles so please look at our forged iron poles.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR A RECESSED WINDOW?

If you have a window without a facing wall to fix your pole to, you will need to use a pole with recessed brackets, or you can use a side fixing dormer rod.

For more information, see our Dormer Rod Guide >.

WHAT IS THE MAX LENGTH BRASS POLE I CAN HAVE?

The maximum length of brass pole we recommend is 360cm. Due to the weight of brass, anything longer is likely to be too heavy for most wall fixtures. Consequently, we don't make adjustable passing brackets and rings in brass to help support your pole. For longer lengths, please see our forged iron poles.
