DESCRIPTION Our simple, elegant Priory Escutcheon Plate is the perfect finish for your door, protecting your keyhole and setting off other brass fittings beautifully. Made from solid, natural brass and featuring a classic oval surround with a hinged flap, it will add decorative interest as well as keep out any draughts. The word escutcheon is derived from the Latin for 'sheild' and was originally used in medieval times to describe the shield shaped emblems on coats of arms. Over time, as people wanted more privacy and the use of doors became more common, the term escutcheon was adapted to refer to the small, functional plates that were used to protect the keyhole from wear and tear. This Priory Escutcheon has been antiqued to create a lovely aged look that will darken naturally over time. PRODUCT INFORMATION Dimensions: 4.2H x 2.6W x 0.5D (cms)Finish: Antiqued Brass - A beautiful, natural finish produced by gently distressing the brass to create a soft patina that is then treated with antiquing solution to speed up the natural tarnishing process and create a lovely aged look that will darken naturally over time.
