Do I need a left or a right side handle?

How can you tell if a handle is

on the left or right?

We are often asked how we determine which handle or latch is "left side" and which is "right side" as it tends to be different from one company to the next.

Our system is in fact very easy to use and works around which side of the door the latch or handle will physically be fixed to. The easiest way to determine this is to have a look at which side your hinges are on.
  • If the hinges on the left then you will require a right side handle or latch.
  • If your hinges are on the right, you will require a left side handle or latch.

NB: This applies to all door and window furniture across our website where the product is stated as being left or right sided.

Bespoke Door Handles

Most of our door handles are supplied in pairs, so the handing is irrelevant. But if you would like to have a different finish on each side of your door - to match with your existing fittings for example, or because you need a durable finish for a wet area like a bathroom or outdoors, then we will need to know which side is in which finish so that we make them the right way round for you.
  • If  the door hinges are on the right, you need a left-handed handle.
  • If the door hinges are on the left, you need a right-handed handle
