Shown above in our beeswax finish, this 50cm Heavy Duty T hinge is made in our forge and then dipped in hot beeswax for a classic soft black finish that has been used since Tudor times. All Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metalworking techniques that have been passed down through the generations and are hand finished to the highest standards at our Suffolk workshops.This hinge is a combination of strap and butt hinge and is thicker (6mm) than the other hinges in the range as it has been specially designed for heavier doors.Supplied with fixing screws in the same finishWhen fitting, we recommend you drill a pilot hole – or small starting hole - for each screw first. The metal is heated until it darkens and then dipped in natural beeswax which gives it a lovely soft black wrought iron effect that looks fabulous in any traditional or contemporary interior. As beeswax is a natural finish that reacts with the underlying metal during the forging process, it often has a subtle, slightly mottled patina with undertones of deep grey or ochre. It is not waterproof, so will need to be re-waxed occasionally.
