DESCRIPTION
Complete your window dressing with our 38mm classic curtain rod in our traditional black Beeswax finish for a lovely soft, forged iron look that will suit modern and period homes alike. These curtain rods are made to measure from premium quality, high strength steel tubing and are suitable for any sized windows and fabric weight. We also make a wide range of complementary finials, brackets and rings for you to choose from that you can select from the Recommended Accessories above, or using the links below.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Pole Length
  • Any length of pole can be ordered, but if over 180cm long we would recommend using a central support bracket
  • If over 180cm long the pole will be supplied in two (or more) equal parts with a joiner rod. The join will be covered by your centre bracket.
Finish - Beeswax - a traditional metalworking technique used since Tudor times to give a rustic, soft black finish. For more information please see our guide - Product Finishes >
Differing beeswax finish:
Beeswax is a completely natural finish, created by heating the steel in the forge and coating it with molten beeswax. Because the poles have a smooth surface, the beeswax doesn't adhere to them as well as it does to the finials, brackets and rings so they often have a shiner and slightly lighter tone than the accessories. In practice, customers don't normally find this a problem once their poles and curtains are hung and many prefer a natural finish, but if you are after a more uniform look, please consider matt black finish instead.

We do not recommend a beeswax finish for use in a humid environment, as it is harder to maintain and may rust. We feel that Matt Black is the preferable option.

Curtain Pole Guide

Which Pole Should I Choose?

Estimate whether your curtains are lightweight (unlined voile, linen or cotton), medium weight (lined cotton, velvet, composite fabrics), or heavyweight (interlined and full length, heavy velvet). This will help you determine the best pole diameter for your needs.

Create Your Own Made-to-Measure Pole

  1. Use our guide for tips on How to measure for a curtain pole.
  2. Choose supporting brackets from our 38mm brackets range (Chapel, Brett, Sleeve, etc).
  3. Select finials from our 38mm finials range.
  4. Calculate rings: We recommend 1 ring per 7cm of pole.

Pole Size & Weight Recommendations

12mm Pole
12mm - 20mm
Light Weight

Best for small windows. Unlined voile, linen or cotton.

20mm Pole
19mm / 20mm
Medium Weight

Lined cotton, velvet, and composite fabrics.

25mm Pole
25mm & above
Heavy Weight

Interlined and full-length curtains, heavy velvet.

38mm Pole
38mm
Extra Heavy

Large windows, long spans, very heavy curtains.

💡
Rule of Thumb If curtains are interlined and window span is over 2m, use at least a 25mm pole. If in doubt, size up!

FAQS

DO I NEED A CENTRE BRACKET?

12mm Poles - the maximum length we would recommend without using a central bracket is 150cm

19/20/25/38mm Poles - the maximum length we would recommend without using a central bracket is 180cm.

DO I NEED AN EXTENDED BRACKET?

If you have an architrave, window frame or radiator that sits particularly proud of your walls, you may need an extended bracket to ensure your curtains hang in front of them. They are double the depth of our normal brackets.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR A RECESSED WINDOW?

If you have a window without a facing wall to fix your pole to, you will need to use a pole with recessed brackets, or you can use a side fixing dormer rod. For more information, see our Dormer Rod Guide >.

HOW MANY PARTS WILL MY POLE BE SUPPLIED IN?

Any length of pole can be ordered, but once over 180cm for a beeswax pole and 210cm for other finishes, the pole will be supplied in two (or more) equal parts with a joining rod. The join will be covered by your central bracket.
