Originally made in China exclusively from silk, knowledge of the fabric and weaving techniques spread west along the Silk Road until it was predominantly produced in the Middle East.Now made from a variety of fabrics, satin has a lustrous finish and beautiful drape that makes it ideal for soft furnishings. It is also extremely durable as it is made up of long, tightly woven fibres that makes it tougher than plainly woven fabrics.
