This knocker is a classic design is inspired by Georgian door knockers that were popular in the early 1800s. Door knockers have been used since Greek times when it was considered more polite for visitors to announce their presence with a loud rap on the door, rather than yelling. For centuries door knockers were made out of cast iron, but in the Georgian period brass became more affordable and fashionable. The Doctors Door Knocker developed its own unique style supposedly so that people could identify the home of a doctor.
The Doctors Door Knocker is made from solid brass that is naturally non-corrosive and is antiqued to give it a subtle, aged appearance.
