DESCRIPTION
If you are looking for a substantial bolt to secure your door, our handsome Groton Door Bolt should fit the bill.  Handcrafted from high quality forged iron and finished in Beeswax, it has a hefty hammered design that will personalise your door while giving it that lovely ‘lived in’ feel that only hand made products can bring. These bolts have a fabulous, tactile quality that you feel whenever you handle them and a classic design that suits modern and period properties and will never date.

All Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metal working techniques and are hand finished to the highest standards at our Suffolk workshop. This Groton is finished in Beeswax, a traditional method used since Tudor times that gives the bolt a soft black look. It has a cranked shank that is designed with a 'step' in it to fit onto doors with a potruding frame (where the door is recessed).

The Groton can be used vertically or horizontally and comes supplied with fixing screws and a mortice and keep in the same finish.

Kindly note, we do not recommend the beeswax finish for bathrooms or outdoor use, as it may rust in a humid environment.

FINISH

Beeswax: A traditional technique used since Tudor times. The metal is heated until it darkens and then dipped in natural beeswax which gives is a lovely soft black wrought iron effect which looks fabulous in any traditional or contemporary interior. As beeswax is a natural finish that reacts with the underlying metal during the forging process, it often has a subtle, slightly mottled patina with undertones of deep grey or ochre. It is not waterproof, so will need to be re-waxed occasionally. To discover more about our finishes and how best to maintain them, please read our Cleaning Beeswax page in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base.
