DESCRIPTION
Our beautiful, handforged Suffolk Latches offer the quintessential look for traditional ledge and brace doors. These doors are typically found in older homes that don't have doors with standard (inset) mortice latch sets. Handcrafted by our skilled blacksmiths in our Suffolk forge, these traditional thumb latches are made from milled steel and feature decorative penny end fixing plates that bring a touch of heritage style to your home.

Shown above in our beeswax finish for a soft, black, rustic appearance that suits modern and traditional interiors, the latch set includes a handle, that is fitted to the side of the door opening away from you and a latch bar (keep) that is fitted to the side of the door opening towards you. They are available in a choice of finishes and can be used with a locking pin (sold separately) for added privacy.
Kindly note, we do not recommend the beeswax finish for use outdoors or in a humid environment, as it is harder to maintain and may rust. We feel Matt Black is a preferable option.

How to Clean Beeswax

FINISH

Beeswax: A traditional metalworking technique used since Tudor times to give a rustic, soft black finish. The metal is heated until it darkens and then dipped in natural beeswax which gives it a lovely soft black wrought iron effect that looks fabulous in any traditional or contemporary interior. As beeswax is a natural finish that reacts with the underlying metal during the forging process, it often has a subtle, slightly mottled patina with undertones of deep grey or ochre. It is not waterproof, so will need to be re-waxed occasionally.
