Guide to our Made-to-Measure Dormer Rods

Our dormer rods are designed to be used in recessed windows or where you have no room to attach a front facing curtain pole. The poles are made from high quality forged iron and will swing back on the bracket to let in the maximum amount of light. You can use a single dormer across the full width of a window or have two that meet in the middle and they can also be used over doorways with the aid of a support bracket to stop it dropping at one end.

These dormer rods are available in two sizes – 12mm or 16mm – and in a number of finishes to suit your interior. The maximum recommended length is 120cm. If you need a rod over 100cm, depending on the weight of your curtain fabric,  you will probably need a support bracket (our code 648) at the other end to prevent the pole from dropping slightly. For lengths over 120cm we recommend a portiere rod or curtain pole and brackets.

Our dormer rods are made to measure and we need the total length of the rod, from the end of the button finial to the centre of the hinge. (The hinge is 5cm wide.) You also need to tell us whether you want to fix the bracket to the side wall or front facing. For information about fitting a dormer rod, try A Guide to our Made-to-Measure Dormer Rods, in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base. Rings can be purchased by clicking on 'Recommended Accessories'. We generally suggest 1 ring to every 7cm of pole but you may want more if your curtain fabric is heavy.

Finish

Polished Lacquer: This really showcases the stunning natural patina of the metal and is a great choice for a contemporary home or to update a traditional one. To produce the gunmetal grey colour, we polish the metal then seal it with a high gloss clear lacquer to create a finish with great durability. The texture and patina of the iron itself gives the product character which looks wonderful with a grey or natural colour way and works particularly with other metallic finishes such as nickel. It also looks great against natural building materials such as brick, stone, plaster or woodwork and looks equally as good in a modern property as it does a period one. For a guide to this finish and how best maintain it, please read  Caring for Metallic Finishes in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base.
