DESCRIPTION
Grace your doors with our handsome, hand crafted Polstead Door Bolt in a classic design to suit both modern and period homes.  Despite its dainty size, this bolt has a hefty, hammered look that makes it as practical is it is beautiful. Made from high quality forged iron and finished in beeswax for a traditional black look, the Polstead has a fabulous tactile quality that befits its handmade nature so it feels as good in your hand as it looks on your door.

This Polstead Door Bolt is only available in Beeswax and has a straight shank that is designed to fit onto doors that are fixed flush with the frame, as opposed to a ‘cranked’ door bolt which has a ‘stepped’ neck to lock doors that are recessed into the frame. It comes supplied with fixing screws and a mortice and keep.
  • This door bolt is not sprung so will not work vertically. We recommend our Groton Door Bolt as an alternative for a vertical fitting.
Kindly note, we do not recommend the beeswax finish for bathrooms or outdoor use, as it may rust in a humid environment.

FINISH

Beeswax: A traditional technique used since Tudor times. The metal is heated until it darkens and then dipped in natural beeswax which gives is a lovely soft black wrought iron effect which looks fabulous in any traditional or contemporary interior. As beeswax is a natural finish that reacts with the underlying metal during the forging process, it often has a subtle, slightly mottled patina with undertones of deep grey or ochre. It is not waterproof, so will need to be re-waxed occasionally. To discover more about our finishes and how best to maintain them, please read our Keeping Beeswax Clean page in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base.
