FRENCH CONE CANDLE CLIP SHADE

Our new range of cone shades are made in two very distinctive shapes to give your home a contemporary twist. The French Cone Candle Clips are tall and narrow and designed for wall fittings, while our wide cone shades are the opposite - short and wide - for an eye-catching outline for table lamps and ceiling pendants.

Kindly note that we cannot offer the Wide Cone shades in silk, wool or velvet because the shape warps the fabric as it goes around. Patterned fabrics might be suitable but in some cases it may be upside down at the back. Please call our helpful Customer Service team to discuss your options.

FITTING

Wide cone shade fitting

Our wide cone shades are made from good quality white card that makes them self-supporting and have a circular wire frame, as shown on the left, which sits at the top or bottom of the shade depending on whether it's a pendant or lamp base fitting.

Our shades have a universal fit as they come supplied with a reducer ring, as shown, that makes them suitable for standard bayonet sized bulbs (BC, B22). The ring can be removed to make the shade fit larger Edison screw bulbs (E27, ES).

Our French cone candle clip shades are supplied with candle clip fittings, two loops of wire like elongated butterfly wings that can be pulled apart slightly so that the shade sits directly on the top of a small bayonet (SBC) candle bulb.

FAQs

Can I use a cone shade for the ceiling?

You can use a Wide Cone Shade for the ceiling as long as it has a pendant fitting. The Product information will tell you whether the shade is designed to fit a pendant light (with bulb pointing down) or for a lamp base (bulb pointing up).

The French cone candle clip shades are designed to fit our wall lights and multi-armed pendants where the bulbs point up and will only fit on top of a candle bulb. For more information, see our Shade Orientation Guide.

How big should my shade be?

For useful information about sizing shades for a lamp base see our Knowledge Base Guide:
  • How to size for a Table Lamp
  • The width of your shade should be equal to the height of your base.
  • The height of your shade should be two thirds the height of your base (divide the base height by 3).
  • Your shade should be wider than the widest part of your base.

What size do I need for a floor lamp?

For useful information on sizing shades for floor lamps, see our Knowledge Base guide
  •  How to Size for a Floor Lamp.
  • Measure the height of your floor lamp from the floor to the underneath of the bulb holder.
  • Divide this by 4 to get the right height of your shade.
  • The width of the shade should be wider than the base.

How much light will the shade let through?

Generally, the lighter the colour and weave of the fabric, the more light the shade will allow through. The darker and heavier the fabric, the more the light is channelled through the top and bottom of the shade. For useful information about fabrics and their use as shades, see our Knowledge Base guide - Lampshades FAQs

Can I have a shade in any of your fabrics?

Yes, we can make any of our shades in any of our fabrics as a bespoke item. Please contact our helpful customer service team to raise a quote.

Can I use my own fabric?

Yes, we can generally make any of our shades in your own fabric, we just ask that you send in a swatch first so that we can be sure it is suitable. For more information, see our Knowledge Base Guide on Bespoke Lampshades.
