How to Clean Brass and Copper

Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base

HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN ANTIQUED BRASS?

Our Antiqued Brass items are created from natural, un-lacquered solid brass that is treated with antiquing solution to speed up the natural tarnishing process and create a lovely aged look that will darken naturally over time.

To clean the brass, we recommend buffing your product with a clean, lint-free soft cloth to get rid of any buildup of dust or dirt. Always handle brass with gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints.

STEP 1:

Switch off the electrical supply before cleaning.

STEP 2:

Use a damp, lint-free cloth to clean the surface.

STEP 3:

Rub with a damp cloth in small circular motions.

STEP 4:

Buff the product dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Rewiring

£35 for a light with a single bulb holder and a further £15 for every additional bulb holder. For example, a Double Cottage wall light would be £50. All lights will be fully disassembled, unwired, and inspected. We will clean and rewire the light with a new lamp holder, fresh seals, and fully test it for safety before sending it back to you.

Refinishing

£30 per item – plus the cost of rewiring – as we will need to strip the wiring away from the light to refinish it. Please note that refinishing costs do not include repairs of dents or deep scratches. Minor scratches will likely be removed or obscured during refinishing.
