There is no simpler way of making a space look bigger, brighter and more inviting than with a carefully positioned
mirror. As well as being a beautiful thing in itself, a stylish mirror is an inexpensive way to add depth and personality to a room. When placed opposite, or near a window, a mirror reflects natural light, creating the illusion of another window that boosts light in dark spaces.
Small rooms, alcoves, nooks, landings, staircases and narrow hallways all benefit from having a mirror to open up the space and introduce natural light.
If you'd like your mirror to have a decorative impact, consider the
overall aesthetic of the room you wish to hang it in and the effect you want to achieve, remembering to include the frame. How much of a statement you want to make? Is the mirror to be a focal point or a more subtle statement piece? Use a smaller mirror to open up a tight space, and a larger mirror to create a grand statement piece to brighten up a bigger room. Embrace the beauty of the season with the addition of a
Jim Lawrence mirror - designed to transform any room in the house - and available in a collection of styles and finishes.
WHERE TO HANG A MIRROR?
Bathrooms - the most obvious place for a mirror, no bathroom is complete without one, as it is essential for washing, dressing and bathing. Traditionally fitted above a wash basin or vanity unit, choose a mirror that reflects the height and symmetry of the room for a formal feel. A rectangular mirror fitted vertically in a large, or heigh ceilinged room, or horizontally in a bathroom with a low ceiling. Or, make an impact by choosing a round, or scalloped mirror that is noticable for its
Bedrooms - in our opinion, bedrooms also benefit from at least one, if not two mirrors, as bathrooms are in contstant use. A table top mirror placed on a chest of drawers or dressing table alongside a full length or free standing one - covers all bases for applying make up and checking your attire while you wait for the bathroom to be free or the condensation to disappear!
Living rooms - consider hanging a mirror over a
fireplace or mantlepiece, console table or other piece of furniture that it complements the finish and adds symmetry to the room. As well as hiding imperfections on the wall, mirrors bring a decorative element to a room. Clustering mirrors of different sizes is a stylish way to create a focal point, so go eclectic and use them as art pieces. Look for mirrors with high-resolution images printed on tempered glass or mirrored squares arranged in an offset tile pattern in a living room or up a staircase.
