HOW TO WIRE OUR SOCKETS

1. Switch the mains supply off. Remove the appropriate fuse or switch off the appropriate circuit breaker.

2. Make sure that nobody else can reconnect the supply while you are working.

3.  If you are replacing an existing fitting, remove it now.

4. Clean the inside of any existing mounting box, remove any debris or dust.

5.  Make sure that any existing fixing screws are secure and do not protrude.


6. Ensure you are using the correct rating and type of cable.

7. Ensure you understand the layout of the terminal connections before wiring. They can differ between fittings.

UK & IRELAND WIRING COLOURS

These fitting instructions only apply to installations in the UK & Ireland.

Twin & Earth Cable: Brown = Live        Flexible Cable : Blue = Neutral

United Kingdom

Important Notice: Wiring colour changes
Installations wired after 1st April 2004 could be wired using EU harmonised colours for the supply conductors of twin & earth cable. The old colours ceased to be used from 1st April 2006. Flexible cable colours were unchanged.

Old Colours: Red = Live      
Black = Neutral

New Colours: Brown = Live
Blue = Neutral  
 

HOW TO WIRE 

A TELEPHONE SOCKET

1. Master telephone sockets should be fitted by an authorised engineer.

2. You can use secondary sockets to add telephone extensions. These can be wired from a master socket or from an existing secondary socket up to a maximum of 5 extension sockets.

3. This socket requires a mounting box with a minimum depth of 25mm.

4. Connect the cables as shown in the wiring diagrams.

5. Connect the terminals using 4 core telephone cable. Connect terminals 2,3,4 & 5 on the existing socket to terminals 2,3,4 & 5 on the new socket.

6. Use the same cable colour for the same terminal on each socket the actual colours are not important. Position each wire as shown in the diagram leaving 12mm overhanging. Press the wire into the connector as shown below. Remove any excess wire.

7. If the socket has a metal front plate and is fitted with earth terminals, you must connect the earth terminal on the socket fo the earth terminal in the wall box.

HOW TO WIRE

A CO-AXIAL SOCKET

1. Carefully cut the outer cable sheath and peel it back to the required length.

2. Remove the excess outer sheath to expose copper braided screen.

3. Roll back the screen over the top of the outer sheeth. Trim back short length of the inner insulation to expose the inner core.

4. Fit the inner core to the centre terminal and tighten the screw.

5. Position the section of cable covered with the braided screen beneath the cable clamp. Tighten the clamp screw.

6. Ensure the braided screen is securely held by the cable clamp and is in contact with the metal backing plate. Do not allow the outer braided screen to come into contact with the central terminal.

7. If the socket has a metal front plate and is fitted with earth terminals, you must connect the earth terminal on the socket to the earth terminal in the wall box. Use copper wire. If the wire is bare, cover it with green/yellow sleeving.
