Wall Light backplates explained
What is a flush fitting back plate ?
In order to retain the look of a traditional wall light, many of our designs have a flush fitting backplate. In order to achieve this, a connector box will need to be housed within a cavity in the wall as there is no room within the light fitting.
This does mean that if you do not already have such a cavity, you would need to consult a qualified electrician about fitting a mounting box into your wall. This is generally not a problem if you have a plasterboard wall, but may be more difficult if your walls are solid brick or lath and plaster. If the backplate of the light is particularly narrow, we also supply a mounting box 3031 with a special lid 3034, as an aid to installation.
Our lights with raised backplates are a great alternative. This option allows for the connector box to be housed within the light itself.
To find out more about our flush fitting backplates, you can view our backplates explained page or download our ‘Backplates Explained
Guide’
If you need further help or advice then please do give our friendly Sales Team a call.
Alternatively your electrician will be able to advise which option is best for you.

Do I need a left or a right side handle or latch?
We are often asked how we determine which handle or latch is "left side" and which is "right side" as it tends to be different from one company to the next.
Our system is in fact very easy to use and works around which side of the door the latch or handle will physically be fixed to. The easiest way to determine this is to have a look at which side your hinges are on: If for example, your door has the hinges on the left then you will require a right side handle or latch. If your hinges are on the right, you will require a left side handle or latch.

Can I use Jim Lawrence lights outside the UK ?
Many of our customers wish to use our lighting outside the UK and Europe, but please note that other worldwide regions may not be covered by the same regulations as the BS EN Standard. To this end we do ask that the purchaser accepts responsibility for ensuring the compliance and compatibility of the lighting in the country they are to be used, as we are unable to guarantee compliance and compatibility outside our approved and tested regions of the UK and Europe.
We are able to offer an additional specialist bespoke testing and compliance service for regions outside the UK and Europe, such as commercial UL standards for the US, but this will incur further costs. To discuss your requirements in more detail please don’t hesitate to call our helpful sales team.
